Asunción to Areguá and back — about 30 km each way on a scenic road, ending at a cobblestone lake town famous for its ceramics, its strawberries and its ice cream. The kind of day you send to a friend and say "we're doing this Saturday."
The route
The roadbook
A relaxed pace with room to linger. Times are a suggestion — this is your day, not a tour bus.
Meet at Andaway, grab your ride and top up the tank before you leave the city. Quick coffee, helmets on, and point the bars east toward the lake.
Roll into Areguá and settle in at La Candelaria — a relaxed spot to stretch, grab an early lunch and cool down. This is your basecamp for the town.
Down to the water. The Areguá waterfront looks out across Lake Ypacaraí with the hills behind it — the money shot of the whole trip. Take your time; this is the one you'll post.
Areguá is the ceramics town — stalls of pottery, planters and hand-painted pieces line the street up to the church. In season (roughly Sept–Nov) it's also strawberry central: fresh berries, jam, licuados and strawberry everything.
The reward. Pull up at a heladería for ice cream, a cold drink and a snack before the ride back — strawberry, of course, if they've got it. Regroup, refill water, and rest the legs.
Cruise back into the city with a phone full of lake photos and a bag of ceramics you didn't plan to buy. Half-day done — or extend into the evening if you're on the full-day plan.
Valid licence, sunscreen, water, a light jacket, cash for the market, and phone storage for the lake shots.
Weekends are liveliest (full market). Strawberry season runs roughly September–November. Go early to beat the midday heat.
Mostly smooth, scenic paved road. Comfortable for confident riders; the pace is relaxed with plenty of stops.

However you get there
This route is great however you get there — by car, bus or tour van. But there's something about riding out to Areguá on two wheels, the lake opening up ahead of you, that turns a day trip into a story. Rent a moto from Andaway and feel the ride instead of just seeing it.
